Authentic Handmade Moroccan Zellige Tile Collection

Shop authentic handmade Moroccan Zellige tiles from Arda Ogan Tile Store. Our Zellige collection includes glossy 4×4 square tiles, 2×6 rectangular tiles, 2×6 long oval tiles, decorative circle mosaics, crosshatch grid mosaics, and Signature Checkerboards™ for kitchen backsplashes, bathroom walls, shower walls, fireplace surrounds, bars, powder rooms, feature walls, and design-led commercial interiors.

Each Zellige tile is handmade in Morocco from natural clay, then glazed and kiln-fired to create luminous color, reflective surface movement, irregular edges, and rich handcrafted variation. These tiles are intentionally imperfect, giving every installation a warm, architectural, artisan-made character that cannot be replicated by machine-made tile.

All Zellige tiles in this collection are intended for wall-use only and are in stock and ready to ship. Samples are recommended before placing a full order so you can review color, glaze movement, texture, edge variation, and finish in person.

  • Bathroom and shower walls: Create a spa-like wall surface when installed over a proper waterproof substrate by an experienced tile professional.
  • Powder rooms: Use Zellige for dramatic vanity walls, half walls, niches, and small-space feature walls.
  • Fireplace surrounds: Bring reflective glaze, color variation, and artisan texture to living rooms, bedrooms, lounges, and hospitality spaces.
  • Bars and feature walls: Add handcrafted depth to residential bars, restaurant interiors, boutique hotels, cafés, spas, and retail spaces.
  • Designer and trade projects: A strong choice for architects, interior designers, builders, contractors, developers, and hospitality professionals.

Important Wall-Use Guidance

All Zellige tiles in this collection are intended for wall-use only. They are recommended for interior vertical applications such as backsplashes, shower walls, bathroom walls, fireplace surrounds, bars, niches, powder rooms, and feature walls.

These Zellige tiles are not recommended for floors, shower pans, pool floors, submerged waterline areas, or high-impact walking surfaces. For floor applications, consider porcelain tile, natural stone tile, or another floor-rated material based on your project requirements.

What to Expect from Handmade Zellige

Zellige is intentionally irregular. The variation is not a defect; it is the signature of authentic handmade Moroccan tile. Each installation will show natural differences in color, glaze pooling, edge shape, thickness, surface texture, reflection, and dimension.

  • Expect high shade and glaze variation from tile to tile.
  • Expect uneven edges, small chips, surface marks, pits, and handcrafted texture.
  • Expect slight size, thickness, and dimensional variation.
  • Open all boxes and blend tiles from multiple cartons before installation.
  • Create a small mock-up before final installation to confirm layout, grout joint, grout color, and overall appearance.

Installation Notes

Handmade Zellige tile requires thoughtful installation by an experienced tile professional. Because the tiles are irregular by nature, layout, blending, waterproofing, grout selection, and setting method are especially important.

  • Order at least 15% extra material for cuts, layout adjustment, blending, breakage, and future repairs.
  • Use an experienced installer familiar with handmade Zellige and irregular-edge tile.
  • Dry-lay and blend tiles from multiple boxes before installation.
  • For wet wall areas, use proper waterproofing, setting materials, grout, and sealers as recommended by your installer.
  • Use a grout color that supports the desired look: soft neutral grout creates a calmer surface, while contrasting grout emphasizes the handmade edges.
  • Do not expect a perfectly flat, machine-made installation. Variation, unevenness, and movement are part of the Zellige appearance.

Design Pairing Ideas

Zellige pairs beautifully with marble countertops, limestone floors, travertine, plaster walls, limewash, warm woods, unlacquered brass, bronze fixtures, concrete, and natural stone surfaces. Its handmade glaze adds softness and movement to minimal, Mediterranean, traditional, and richly layered interiors.

  • Pair white or ivory Zellige with marble countertops for a soft luxury kitchen backsplash.
  • Use beige, sand, or terracotta Zellige with travertine or limestone for a Mediterranean-inspired interior.
  • Pair deep blue, green, or brown Zellige with brass fixtures for a dramatic boutique-hotel look.
  • Use Signature Checkerboards™ for powder rooms, feature walls, fireplace surrounds, bars, and statement backsplashes.
  • Use matching grout for a seamless handmade surface or contrast grout for a more graphic effect.

Care & Maintenance

Zellige should be cleaned and maintained according to the product, installation area, grout selection, and sealer recommendations. Handmade glazed surfaces should be treated with care to preserve the appearance of the tile and grout over time.

  • Clean with mild, pH-neutral cleaners suitable for tile and grout.
  • Avoid harsh acidic or abrasive products that may damage grout, sealer, or surrounding materials.
  • Inspect grout and sealers periodically in wet wall areas.
  • Follow installer recommendations for maintenance in showers, backsplashes, fireplaces, bars, and commercial spaces.
